This new kitchen was designed and installed by Ben of BNB Cabinets Plus last year. This kitchen was designed to suit a brand new modern home in the Maitland region.  The owners had a good idea of how they wanted the kitchen layout to work and Ben worked closely with the home owners to perfect the functionality and style. In this modern home the owners wanted to down-play the cabinetry in the kitchen and instead use recycled timber in the kitchen design as a feature.

This new kitchen uses Tandem Legra Box drawer furniture and to continue the minimalist look, the home owners opted to install push-in design mechanisms rather than installing handles on the cabinetry.

Keeping the cabinetry cost down, meant that the owners could splurge on things like upgraded drawer runners and inserts and the power assisted garbage bin was a last minute splurge – it has a motor that allows you to open the bin hands free which is perfect for when you have dirty hands and want to put something in the bin without touching handles or cabinetry.

The cararra stone 90mm benchtop with waterfall edge suits the 4-5 metre raked ceiling height space and it helps to ground the kitchen in the huge open space. The rear benchtop is 40mm thick so that the island remains the hero of the room.

We love how the owner chose to incorporate recycled timber into this new kitchen design to add some warmth to the room.  Recycled Victorian messmate timber was sourced from Melbourne by a local recyled timber company for this project and was used as overhead shelving, internal stair treads and on the back of the kitchen island.

Laundry Cabinetry & Benchtop

The cabinetry in the laundry was designed from the same colour polytec material as the kitchen cabinets and a 3 metre long 40mm stone benchtop was installed to match the cararra stone in the new kitchen. The 600mm x 600mm tiled splashback used in the kitchen was kept the same also for consistency across the spaces.

Splurge items in the laundry space included, 3 x built-in dirty laundry wire baskets, a handy built-in ironing board that folds away in a drawer and a large broom/utility cupboard with shelving down one side to hide away all those little items that usually hang around on a benchtop.

The owners love their new kitchen and laundry space and have decided to continue the same white cabinetry and the recycled overhead shelving in the laundry and study space. Stay tuned for more photos.
